As I get older, and inevitably (hopefully) wiser, I've learned that I probably, most definitely, won't ever have my shit together.
Are you laughing yet? Perhaps uncomfortably because you're in the same boat?
"Shit Together" - It Makes NO SENSE
It doesn't at all, if you really think about it.
"I have my shit together"
Why are you bragging about collecting all of your shit (the drama, the baggage, the stuff your mind won't let you ignore, the failed friendships and relationships, daddy and mommy issues, no job prospects, no money, and all of the actual stuff that you have) and having it somewhere in a neat little pile?
Have I just blown your mind?
The best people - the kind of person I aspire to be - are a little bit dishevelled. That's not a bad thing. There are actually studies that say that disorganized people are more intelligent and creative.
I am NOT advocating that you can be a destructive, blood-sucking human and call yourself a creative, let alone intelligent. Nice try.
I am also NOT saying that self-improvement is a bad thing, or that seeking a comfortable, organized life isn't wonderful - it is if you've truly accomplished it. What I AM saying is... let's not dress up our imperfections and call it "having my shit together." That does a disservice to everyone.
Stop Glorifying Perfection
If we stop glorifying perfection, or the concept of "having your shit together," we can all have the flexibility to grow in a healthy space.
Rather than the rigidity of our nice "clean" piles of shit, we can embrace a little chaos, cut ourselves some slack, and chase the things that make us wild.
So, kick up the pile, give yourself a break, and do something you love today. Here, you won't ever be judged.
